Savener has once again been selected as the successful bidder in the public tender organised by the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), as part of its strategy to reduce CO2 emissions in its hospitals, for the drafting of the execution project, site management and health and safety coordination of the second part of the project for energy saving and diversification measures to improve the energy rating of the buildings and centres attached to the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital in Seville.
This new project complements the innovative measures carried out by Savener in the first phase, in which a new high-efficiency District Cooling Plant was designed and implemented to supply the General Hospital, the Rehabilitation and Traumatology Hospital, the Women’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital.
It will involve an investment of 5.08 M€, which together with the 10.5 M€ of the District Cooling of the first phase mentioned above, will constitute an efficient Centralised Cooling and Heating System which, with an investment of approximately 16 M€, will become the largest Centralised Cooling System in the world in its technology and the one with the greatest thermal power in Spain.
On this occasion, the project that has been awarded this new contract concerns the facilities responsible for heat production at different thermal levels, for steam production, production and distribution of hot water for heating and production of sanitaryhot water.
Among the revolutionary actions proposed and with the ultimate aim of diversifying and maximising energy efficiency, Savener’s initiative includes the complete design of a new boiler room annexed to the existing one, which will house the new steam production units and all the elements attached to them, as well as the new hot water boilers and the pumping groups of the primary and secondary circuits for the distribution of hot water, by means of a distribution ring, to the hospitalisation buildings of the complex: General Hospital, the Rehabilitation and Traumatology Hospital and the Women’s Hospital.
In the machine rooms of the three hospital buildings mentioned above, the existing heating installations for heating and domestic hot water (DHW) will be adapted so that they can be safely and effectively connected to the new centralised heat and steam generation system.
For the design of the new heating plant, state-of-the-art equipment, high energy efficiency and a high level of modularity will be used. This will allow, among other skills, to adjust the installed power to the real demand currently existing in the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital, which will increase the efficiency and sustainability of the system.
It should be noted that Savener, in its desire for continuous improvement and progress, in addition to the actions contemplated in the Technical Specifications issued by the SAS included in the Energy Audit carried out in 2018, which has served as the basis for this tender, has considered the possibility of linking this project to the new HUVR cooling production plant (also developed by Savener). The idea is to use the condensation heat from the water-water chiller plants to preheat the water to produce steam and to produce sanitary hot water for the Women’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital.
The final set to be developed will achieve very high levels of energy efficiency, which will lead to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions into the atmosphere , which is ultimately the objective of this project, and will in turn provide thermal comfort and a high quality “reaction” to changes in demand, improving conditions for both users and employees.
