Savener completes the IFC design of the Gravity Filters building for the largest desalination plant ever built in the Sultanate of Oman

Savener has successfully completed the detailed phase IFC design of the Gravity Filters building, a key infrastructure for the construction of the GHUBRAH III desalination plant, the largest desalination plant ever built in the Sultanate of Oman. This project, led by GS Inima and engineered by Savener, will treat 300,000 m³ of water per day, making it a milestone in the region and in the history of desalination in the country.

The Gravity Filters building, the centrepiece of the pre-treatment process, will house thirty-two (32) gravity filtration cells. These are designed with layers of anthracite, sand and gravel, capable of removing more than 85% of the total suspended solids (TSS) from the incoming water. This step is essential to ensure the quality of the water before it enters the reverse osmosis process, protecting the membranes and optimising the operational efficiency of the plant.

The IFC (Issued for Construction) design developed by Savener includes innovative solutions that not only meet the highest technical standards, but also ensure the sustainability and reliability of this critical infrastructure. With the completion of this phase, the project is now fully ready for construction, marking a significant step towards the commissioning of the largest desalination plant in the Sultanate’s history.

The importance of the Gravity Filters cannot be underestimated: their role is vital in ensuring that the treated water reaches the required quality

The importance of the Gravity Filters cannot be underestimated: their role is vital in ensuring that the treated water reaches the required quality, protecting high-value equipment and prolonging its useful life. This building forms the heart of the pre-treatment, a critical stage in the success of desalination at GHUBRAH III, which will play a crucial role in supplying clean water to the region, improving the quality of life for thousands of people.

This achievement consolidates Savener as a benchmark in advanced engineering applied to projects of high global impact. The completion of the Gravity Filters building design reinforces its commitment to excellence, innovation and sustainability, positioning itself as a key player in the development of solutions for a more resilient and efficient future.
