SAVENER has one of the most advanced tools for creating sustainable design through the choice of the most suitable openings. It is software that guides us in the use of the most suitable type of openings, depending on the site of our building and the orientation of the wall, and the level of efficiency that we are aiming for.
Making the right choice about openings for a certain type of wall in a certain climatic zone can substantially condition the energy demand for a building.
While we keep the rest of the building parameters unchanged (configurationn of the wall, thermal bridges, etc.), we can see the influence exerted by the type of opening in our subject. The tool helps us to choose the most appropriate type to obtain the highest level of efficiency, a moderate level of efficiency or an undesirable level, warning us of non-compliance with CTE-HE1 unless we substantially improve some other aspect of our building. Nonetheless, we are currently preparing a completely unlimited version in which any possible combination can be entered.

This tool is very useful when we are preparing the first drafts of our design, helping us to decide whether an aperture of a certain size is advisable in certain direction and climate or whether we need to make the opening bolder to match the size included in the initial ideas. We can therefore see whether the design will raise the investment or if we should design for more efficiency and lower costs, if the overall aesthetic concept allows us sufficient margin for this.
The tool is completely visual and its intuitive data entry feature ensures that it is user friendly, while the results produced are very comprehensive.
It was originally designed for a window manufacturer and offers all manner of possibilities for combining 9 variables to be defined by the user: local climate, orientation, % of the aperture, building use, frame factor, transmittance of the frame (Um), transmittance of the glass (Uv), absorbency and permeability. All the options presented are based on the models of the original manufacturer who the tool was designed for.
Nonetheless, we are currently preparing a completely unlimited version in which any possible combination can be entered.
